FONTERRA’S POSITION ON BREASTFEEDING

Q. What is your position on breastfeeding?

We believe that breast milk is the best source of nutrition for your little ones. We support the World Health Organisation’s recommendation for breastfeeding as the only source of nutrition for the first 6 months of life, and the introduction of safe and appropriate foods thereafter to supplement continued breastfeeding.

Q. In instances where women cannot or choose not to breastfeed, what is your recommendation?

While breast milk is the best source of nutrition for babies, we also support the World Health Organisation’s acknowledgement that infant formula is the only safe alternative where women cannot or chose not to breastfeed. Introducing partial bottle-feeding can negatively affect breastfeeding, but for mothers who cannot or choose not to breastfeed, Fonterra has developed Anmum – a range of nutritionally formulated infant formula products.

WHAT IS ANMUM?

Q. How long has Anmum been around for?

Anmum has been successfully sold in markets in Asia for the last 18 years and is a trusted brand internationally. Anmum has been sold in New Zealand since 2016. Being owned locally by the farmers of Fonterra, and with over 50 years of expertise in the paediatric nutrition area, we are really proud of our formulation.

Q. Where can I find Anmum products?

Our full list of retailers is available online at: https://www.anmum.com/nz/contact/stockists.html. We are doing our best to stock Anmum in as many stores as possible and the Anmum product range is available for retailers to order. If you have noticed your local supermarket doesn't stock Anmum, we suggest you touch base with the store manager and let them know you’re missing us!

Alternatively, Anmum is available online at TheMarket.com

Q. What is the shelf life of ANMUM NeoPro and PediaPro products?

Unopened, Anmum NeoPro1, NeoPro2 and PediaPro3 products have a shelf life of 2 years. However, once the tin is open, other external factors such as the storage environment, may influence the quality and freshness of the product. We suggest you use the full contents of the tin within 1 month of opening, in order to reduce the chances of the product deteriorating in quality.

Q. Which Anmum products are sold in New Zealand?

Anmum NeoPro1, NeoPro2 and PediaPro3 are all available in New Zealand.

Q. Are your cows grass fed?

Grass is a natural food source for cows and New Zealand is one of the few places in the world where cows can graze on grass, year round. During times of the year when grass growth is low, our farmers may decide to use supplementary feed to ensure cows receive adequate nutrition, however supplementary feeds typically form a small percentage of our cows’ total diet.

Q. Are there any differences between the formulation sold overseas and the formulations sold in New Zealand?

Formulation and regulatory requirements can differ across countries. The Anmum range sold within the New Zealand market are formulated specifically to meet local regulations.

Q. What are the main differences between the range of Anmum products?

ANMUM NeoPro1 Infant Formula is suitable for little ones aged 0-6 months, and is formulated as a complete food until the age of 6 months.

ANMUM NeoPro2 Follow-On Formula is suitable for little ones aged 6-12 months, and is formulated to complement the weaning diet.

ANMUM PediaPro3 Toddler Milk is suitable for toddlers aged from 12 months onwards. It contains 16 essential vitamins and minerals and no added sugars.

Q. My baby has an allergy to cow’s milk protein – is ANMUM suitable?

The full range of ANMUM products contain intact cow’s milk protein and is therefore not suitable for children with a cow’s milk allergy.

Q. Why do I have to accept that ‘breast is best’ before I can go to your website?

We support the aim and intent of the recommendations made by the NZ Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization Code of Marketing Breast Milk Substitutes. We choose to market our brand responsibly, which is why we include this disclaimer on our website.

Q. Do ANMUM products require different preparation versus other milk powders?

Yes. It is important to carefully read and always follow the mixing and feeding instructions on all infant formula, follow-on and toddler milk products. Incorrect preparation or dilution of infant formula or toddler milk products can make your child ill.

ANMUM NEOPRO1

Q. What is ANMUM NeoPro1?

ANMUM NeoPro1 is an infant formula, which has been made specifically for babies aged 0-6 months.

Q. What is the whey:casein ratio for NeoPro1?

The whey to casein ratio in ANMUM NeoPro1 Infant Formula is approximately 60:40.

Q.  How many scoops are needed for NeoPro1?

The scoop size in NeoPro1 is tailored to deliver variable amounts of energy and nutrients needed to support the rapid growth of your little one throughout their first six months of life. For example, during the first 2 weeks when your baby is smaller, you will only need to add 2 scoops to 60 mL water for a feed, while at 4 months you will need to add 6 scoops to 180 mL water.

Feeding tables are available here: https://www.anmum.com/nz/products/neopro-and-pediapro/anmum-neopro-1. They can also be found on the side of every can of Anmum. It is important that you use the scoop provided within your tin of Anmum, and follow the on pack instructions as this gives the correct amount of powder to water ratio.

Q. Can I continue to give ANMUM NeoPro1 to my baby until they are 12 months?

We would recommend changing from ANMUM NeoPro1 to ANMUM NeoPro2 when your little one is around 6 months of age. Growing babies at different ages have different nutrient requirements and ANMUM NeoPro2 Follow-On Formula contains nutrients at levels suitable for babies aged from 6-12 months – this includes higher levels of protein and minerals such as iron and iodine.

Q. When can my baby start drinking ANMUM NeoPro2 Follow-On Formula?

A baby can start to consume Follow-On Formula from the age of six months. Follow-On Formulas are formulated to complement the weaning diet.  As your little one grows and develops, a greater variety of texture appropriate foods should be gradually introduced into their diet, providing more nutrients and energy.

Q. Is it possible to drink too much ANMUM NeoPro2 Follow-On Formula? What happens?

From 6 months, texture appropriate solid foods should have been introduced to your baby’s diet and an increase in the consumption of Follow-On Formula above what is recommended may displace other weaning foods in their diet. The amount of ANMUM NeoPro2 Follow-On Formula used should be consumed according to the recommended feeding table on the can, unless you have been advised otherwise by your doctor.

Q. Can children older than 12 months old consume ANMUM NeoPro2 Follow-On?

Growing babies at different ages have different nutrient requirements. ANMUM NeoPro2 Follow-On Formula is specially formulated to meet the nutrient requirements for babies aged 6 –12 months. From the age of 12 months, we would recommend ANMUM PediaPro3.

Our Anmum PediaPro3 toddler milk contains no added sugars, and additional vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin D, iron and zinc along with prebiotics and Bifidobacterium lactis DR10TM – a friendly bacteria. If you are worried that your little one is going through a phase of fussy eating, toddler milk is a great way to make sure they are getting many of the nutrients they need, to support their active bodies and minds.

Q. What do you mean by “No Added Sugars” in Anmum Pediapro3? What other types of sugars are there apart from sucrose?

In order to make this claim, a food or beverage can not contain any added sugar – this includes sucrose, glucose syrup solids, maltodextrin and lactose, which are recognised by regulatory authorities as ‘sugars’.

Anmum is proud to provide a Toddler Milk in the New Zealand market with No Added Sugars. See more information about added sugars.
