When’s the time to potty train?

There isn’t an exact age for your child to be potty trained, but most children are ready when they are 18 months to three years old.

How to prepare for potty training?

Don’t buy the potty just yet. Start thinking about the actual training first. There are decisions you should make such as:

• When to start

• How do you want to start

• What are the rewards (if any) you’ll be using

• How to handle accidents

Once you’ve put some thought into that, talk through it and plan with your partner, family doctor, or paediatrician. Then make sure everyone else who takes care of your child implies the same approach to avoid confusion in the cycle of training.

Turning potty training accidents into a positive

Every child has accidents before mastering their training, so try not to get angry or punish your child. Potty training can be a little unnerving for your child, so help your child along calmly. When accidents happen, clean it up and suggest your child try again.
